Presentation to the students and members of the IPP: Protection of Monuments

The academic presentation entitled: “Visualization of geospatial data on the web” was organized by the team of the Laboratory of Photogrammetry in the School of Chemical Engineering, NTUA. The aim was to inform the students and members of the Interdepartmental/Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program (IPP) “Protection of Monuments” about the ways of exploiting the 5dMeteora platform in the context of the dissemination of spatial and non-spatial Cultural Heritage data. The platform can also serve the needs of showcasing and disseminating students’ research regarding monument digital protection, restoration and management. As administrators of the platform, they could upload their own 3D models, configure their appearance in the viewport, and define spots or areas that i.e., need intervention/maintenance, with the hotspots tool. Text, drawings, photographic documentation, metadata, video and/or pdf files can be attached to the hotspots, which either describe the current state (construction methods applied, pathology, typology, past interventions, analysis of construction materials, etc.) or analyze the recommended optimal rehabilitation interventions. At the end of the presentation, the use of the platform in the context of restoration and protection of historical structures and its development prospects for the protection, promotion and sustainability of cultural heritage were further discussed.

The students of Direction B: “Materials and Maintenance Operations”, members of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and the Faculty of Architectural Engineering of NTUA were present. The Director of the Laboratory of Materials Science and Technology and the Director of Studies of the Second Direction is the professor, Antonia Moropoulou, whose associates were present.
